Our Funding
D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program
The D.C. OSP's federal authorizing statute allocates $12.1 million annually to scholarships via the U.S. Department of Education, and as of 2007-2008 only about $373,000 towards critical family and school support services. This is a mere 16% of the cost for the year to run the program effectively, resulting in the need to raise significant private funds. Our generous donors include:
Signature Scholarship Program
The SSP is funded entirely through WSF’s donor base, including:
- Committed individuals, especially our highly engaged Board of Directors;
- Generous matches from the Children’s Scholarship Fund;
- Institutional and family foundations, including Fight for Children, The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, the William H. Donner Foundation, the IKO Foundation, and the Richard E. and Nancy P. Marriott Foundation;
- Corporations, such as Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group, Clark Construction Group, Clark Enterprises, Inc., and the Washington Post Company; and
- The United Way, America’s Charities, and the funds raised through the Combined Federal Campaign.
The SSP receives no public funding whatsoever.
