The Application Process for the SSP

SSP Scholarship Amounts

Scholarships are available of up to $3,000 per child each year for tuition to attend any private school in the D.C. metropolitan area.

Who Can Apply

To qualify for a Signature Scholarship for the 2009-2010 school year, students must:

• Live in Washington, D.C.
• Be five years-old by September 30th, 2009, or be entering Kindergarten through 12th grade for the 2009-2010 school year
• Have a household income at or below 270% of poverty, based on 2007 income (See the table provided)

Where to Apply

Applications must be completed in person at WSF’s office. We also have neighborhood application meetings throughout the city, so please call or email for a schedule of events.

When to Apply

Starting October 27, 2008.

What to Bring With You to Apply

1) Report Cards For Students Currently Enrolled in Grades K – 11 for 2008-2009

2) Current Documentation of Housing Assistance (if applicable)

3) Birth Certificate for any Child Born In 2004
(must be born before 9/30/04)

4) Proof of DC Residency
(Documents must show parent/guardian name & current DC home address)

5) One of the following:

• 2007 D-40 (DC Income Tax Return)
• Section 8/HUD Lease (past 12 months)
• DC benefits statements (past 3 months)
• Paystub showing DC tax withheld (past 45 days)
  
  OR TWO OF THE FOLLOWING:
• DC Driver’s License (unexpired)
• DC Vehicle Registration (unexpired)
• Current Lease (past 12 months)
• Utility Bill – gas, water, electric (past 3 months)

6) Documentation of All 2007 Income for You and All Adults in Your Household
You must provide official documentation with 2007 annual amounts

• Individual Income Tax Return (Form 1040)
• Wages, Salaries, Tips
• Public Assistance Payments/Welfare Benefits
• Social Security Income, Pensions, Retirement Income
• Disability Benefits
• Child Support or Alimony Payments
• Gifts from family/friends
• Any Other Income Received
